Every year on the 6-th of October our state observes the Remembrance day, as a sign of grief on victims of destructive earthquake of 1948. The exhibition organized in a museum widely represents artworks that embodied all weight of consequences of terrible disaster.
The exposition features works of People’s artist Yarly “Bad news”, Annamammet Hojaniyazov “Grief”, the Honored art worker of Turkmenistan Saparmammet Meredov “The mosque of Geokdepe”, “Golden autumn”, Artyk Ramazanov’s “Travel”, Nikolai Chervyakov’s “Break”, which show restoration of a city after earthquake, also happy life of modern generation. The exhibition is supplemented by sculptural compositions of Juma Jumadurdy “Trouble”, Annameret Taganov “Family”, “Old city”, “News”.
Turkmenistan's museum of fine arts has a unique collection of exhibits, 1500 of which are exhibited permanently. They make possible to retrace cultural development of Turkmen land during ages. The museum has 11 exhibition halls where you can look at Turkmen modern art: paintings, graphic works, sculptures, carpets, tapestries, ceramic items and jewelry – fruits of our contemporaries' creativity. Besides, museum has works of West-European art of XIV – XX centuries, Russian paintings of XVIII–XX centuries, also applied art of China, Japan, India and Iran. The collection was gathering during whole XX century, and the museum. This collection was gathered throughout all XX-th century, and the museum during this period repeatedly changed its location, till it finally has moved to a specially constructed “temple of arts”. The modern building of a museum has opened its doors to visitors on 17th of February, in 2005. New building of museum has decorated the central part of Ashgabat, becoming an integral part of its architectural ensemble. For first ten years of museum's functioning ten thousand Ashgabat's people and guests of capital have already visited it; all they have received great possibility to see creativity of many native and foreign artists of different epochs, art samples of the Ancient East and national art crafts. All these items make grandiose on plan and scales exposition, one of biggest in all Central Asia. We can name museum as a centre of spiritual life of Turkmen people, the keeper of its invaluable property - works of fine arts that show richness and beauty of national and world culture. Capital museum of fine arts plays a role of scientific centre on studying and preserving best samples of Turkmen and foreign painting and sculpture, works of carpet makers and jewelers, ceramists and graphic artists for future generations. With that end in view all necessary conditions are created in museum.
